North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System Wins Healthcare Association of New York State's Pinnacle Award for Quality and Patient Safety

The Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS) has awarded its sixth annual Pinnacle Award for Quality and Patient Safety to North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System for its efforts to dramatically reduce hospital-associated infections.

North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System implemented a system-wide approach to quality improvement across nine hospitals, which represented 22 intensive care units and 330 total hospital beds. They met an ambitious goal of attaining zero hospital associated infections in many areas of the programs in a short time, and made dramatic impacts throughout the system.

So when you place the saliva on the microscope slide under the microscope and it dries you can see a crystallized salt pattern called a fern pattern," says Anita Sadaty, M.D., attending physician in Obstetrics and Gynecology at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, New York.
